New Report by the International NGO Council on Violence Against Children

Violating Children's Rights: New Report by the International NGO Council on Violence Against Children

This new Report on harmful practices based on tradition, culture, religion or superstition, identifies practices which involve gross and unlawful discrimination against groups of children, including gender discrimination, and in particular discrimination against children with disabilities. The common characteristic of the violations highlighted in this report is that they are based on tradition, culture, religion or superstition, and are perpetrated and actively condoned by the child’s parents or by other adults within the child’s community with parents’ assumed or actual consent. Sterilisation of children with disabilities is clearly identified in this report as a harmful practice and a form of violence against children.
