WHEN CARING GETS YOU DOWN - A COURSE FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH ASD This
course, conducted by CIT Skills for Carers program with the support of
Autism Asperger ACT, explores the challenges of parenting a child with
Autism Spectrum Disorder, the search for ways forward, the search for
strength for now and into the future, and the importance of imparting
life-enhancing things into your life and the life of your family.
Topics covered include:
* Understanding and managing the ongoing responsibilities of parenting a
child or young person with ASD
. Exploring the complex interconnectedness between stress, grief,
depression, physical health and the need for support
. Strategies for finding some balance and perspective, ways to keep
going.
Please note that the focus of this course is not the person with Autism
Spectrum Disorder and does not provide information about ASD.
Facilitator: Jenny Thompson has worked in the Canberra community for over
25 years as a psychologist, counsellor and trainer. She has a special
interest in mental health, trauma and grief, and how families find
resilience in the face of adversity.
