Today marks the 16 week countdown until APAC 2013.

Keynote Speaker Profiles

This monthly newsletter will profile different keynote and invited speakers confirmed to present at the conference.

Stephen Shore
Diagnosed with "Atypical Development and strong autistic tendencies" and "too sick" for outpatient treatment Dr. Shore was recommended for institutionalisation. Nonverbal until four, and with much support from his parents, teachers, wife, and others, Stephen is now a professor at Adelphi University where his research focuses on matching best practice to the needs of people with autism. In addition to working with children and talking about life on the autism spectrum, Stephen presents and consults internationally on adult issues pertinent to education, relationships, employment, advocacy, and disclosure as discussed in his books Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Ask and Tell: Self-advocacy and Disclosure for People on the Autism Spectrum, the critically acclaimed Understanding Autism for Dummies, and the newly released DVD Living along the Autism Spectrum: What it means to have Autism or Asperger Syndrome. President emeritus of the Asperger's Association of New England and former board member of the Autism Society, Dr. Shore serves on the boards of the Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Association, the Autism Services Association, and other autism related organisations. Pat Howlin
Patricia Howlin is Professor of Clinical Child Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, London. This is the first Chair in Clinical Child Psychology in the UK. She is a chartered clinical psychologist with a Ph.D. in Psychology and a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Her principal research interests focus on autism and other developmental disorders. She has conducted evaluations of a variety of different intervention programmes, including comparative studies of home and school based treatments; control trials of communication training programmes, and longer term studies of the impact of early interventions. She has also been involved in research on the transition to adulthood by people with autism and individuals with Williams syndrome, developmental language disorders and Fragile X. Professor Howlin is Chair of the UK Association of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and the Chair of the Society for the Study of Behavioural Phenotypes and joint editor of the journal Autism.
