Workshop: Building & safeguarding quality lives for a person with a disability through circles of support and microboards Canberra October 25 & 26, 2013
Learn how to enlist community members through the Microboard approach
to build and safeguard quality lives for your family member with a
disability. Microboards are a small group of family members and friends
who gather around a single individual to form an incorporated
association for the benefit of that individual.
A Microboard’s role can include assisting with coordinating support services, finding and keeping employment, facilitating friendships & social community.
The approach is similar to circles of support. The key difference is that incorporation allows the microboard to obtain funding that can be used to sustain the microboard and the ongoing support it provides – even when the primary carers are no longer around.
