BIG BANG NIGHT HOOPS
Offer your young people a positive program to do on Saturday Nights!
Night Hoops is a basketball program for young people aged 12-21, run in
conjunction with Basketball ACT and PCYC Canberra.
We've been operating since 2011 at Belconnen Basketball Stadium. Night
Hoops engages young people, new migrant youth and at-risk youth in
weekly basketball games, where they learn key skills such as teamwork,
conflict resolution, dealing with emotions, communication and integrity.
By building relationships with others from different cultural, racial
and socio-economic backgrounds, participants build a shared identity as
ballers - an identity which carries in to their everyday lives by
eliminating racism and stereotypes.
Night Hoops offers both coaching and teaching for those new to the game,
as well as a mini-tournament for the more experienced youth. By working
together with local stakeholders, businesses, government, and
individuals can provide constructive alternatives for the young men and
women at risk of drug, crime, and gang-related activity.
Night Hoops keeps young people off the streets, teaches them
self-discipline, and gives them an opportunity to make a positive change
in their lives. We run for 8 weeks, Saturday nights from 7.30pm to
11.45pm.
The full program is available at our facebook page. Please note if you
(or your young person) need to be picked up or dropped off, you MUST
advise us before the start of Night Hoops. All kids receive a free
basketball. Please advise if your son or daughter have any special
requirements. To register yourself or your child, please email
