ESO grants

from the ADHD support group, re ESO grants:
* The ESO stems from $7.7million that the ACT was given in advance of the NDIS which will be in place next year in the Territory
* The ESO was not designed to meet everyone's needs( this would be impossible with this amount ) but to give people some experience of choice
and control in relation to their needs and the services they want to purchase.

* We received over 1300 applications for the first round, far in excess of predicted applications. People applied for over $13 million.
* Successful applicants from round one have been informed by Minister Burch that they have been successful for one item and should be receiving letters detailing how much their grant is in the next week.
* The second round of the ESO is underway at the moment. It opened on 30 September 2013 and will close at 5pm on 8 November 2013.
* People can access the electronic forms via the CSD webpage.

* People who were unsuccessful in round one will be prioritised over successful applicants in round two.
There are three types of grants that people can apply for if they meet the eligibility criteria.
These are:
* Flexible supports and services grant. People can apply for up to $12000. People in the first round applied for additional services/ supports and this included supports or services that provide a respite
effect. As such some people applied for a holiday for themselves and their family or for services to enable their usual carers to have a break.
* Aids, equipment and minor modifications grant. Up to $10000 available for this grant. People applied for kitchen, bathroom modifications, wheelchairs, ramps hoists scooters, voice software etc.
* The final grant is a Quality of Life grant and this is up to
$5000. People applied for diverse things such as play equipment for kids with autism, to set up a social enterprise, for laptops/ ipads to assist with communication/ learning and musical instruments, sports equipment and assistance to travel to AWD sports events.
