ACT Minister for Disability, Children and Young People, Joy Burch MLA,
last night officially launched DUO Services Australia Ltd, celebrating
the amalgamation of Tandem Respite and Home Help Service ACT.
"DUO is an example of the new type of business model and innovation
inspired by the NDIS and the Living Longer Living Better aged care
reforms" said Cheryl Pollard, DUO's Chief Executive. "These reforms
will fundamentally change the way we support people with disability, the
frail aged, and their families and carers. We know there is a need for
flexible, tailored and responsive services that provide Canberrans with
exactly what they require and through DUO, we can do just that."
DUO is a community organisation that understands community needs,
providing local services in excess of 275,000 hours of support annually
to 4000 vulnerable Canberrans, a paid workforce in excess of 450 staff,
and the commitment of over 50 long term volunteers.
Delivering a broad suite of programs including in-home and community
based respite, personal care, social support, case management and
domestic assistance, clients can access from within the one organisation
whichever of these services they need to help maintain a fulfilling life
within the community.
The new organisation was launched yesterday evening at the University of
Canberra INSPIRE Centre.
