Privacy Act Workshop & Privacy Resources
Workshop: Changes to the Privacy Act
Do you hold a leadership role in a Community Sector organisation?
Are you familiar with the changes that the new Privacy Act has on your
organisation?
On 12 March 2014, changes to the Privacy Act commenced. These changes
include a new set of Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), which set out
how private sector organisations and Australian Government agencies
(called entities), must handle your personal information.
Under the new laws, entities have greater responsibility to manage
information in an open and transparent way.
They must have a clearly expressed and up-to-date privacy policy
explaining what they are going to do with your personal information. They
must explain the kinds of personal information they collect and use, what
they are going to do with it, and whether they are likely to disclose. They
must also say how you can access and correct your personal information
and make a privacy complaint.
There are new rules about how entities can use or share your personal
information to direct market you their goods or services. They are only
allowed to do this in certain circumstances.
The Privacy Act does impact on community service organisations and
often these changes are not as simple as we first think.
If you would like to hear more detailed information about how the changes
to the Privacy Act will impact your organisation please join us on

Vandenberg Lawyers will be available to provide you with a further update
