Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is currently doing a research project looking and women's experiences with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
We are hoping women with a disability in the ACT would like to share their story of how they have engaged with the NDIA, telling us issues that are important to them and discussing their experience.
Below is the content of a flyer and information sheet about the project. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the flyer or information sheet directly please email me on j.perry@wchm.org.au<mailto:j.perry@wchm.org.au>.
If you know anyone who might be interested in having a conversation with us it would be great to hear their story. This will help us feedback to the NDIA relevant issues for women in the ACT as well as inform and empower other women in their journey with the NDIS.
Please contact me if you would like further information.
Many thanks,
Jocelyn

Research with women with disabilities' and their experiences with the National Disability Insurance Agency in the ACT
Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) would like to talk to women with a disability who have been in contact the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) in the ACT. WWDACT is interested to hear women's stories and understand their experiences and interactions with the NDIA.
We welcome all women, regardless of how much contact they have made with the NDIA; if they have attended a pre-planning meeting, confirmed their eligibility, developed a plan or opted out!
We would like women to tell their story and hear issues that were important to them as individuals. Some general themes that may be covered include:
- The information provided by the NDIA
- Levels of choice and control offered during interactions
- The process of pre-planning and/or developing a plan
- Outcomes of interactions
- Hopes/aspirations for the NDIS
Why are we doing this research?
Through listening to women's stories we will gain a deeper understanding of women's individual experiences and how the NDIA is operating in the ACT. This information will be fed back to the NDIA as well as used to focus further research into this area. If agreed upon by the participant, stories will also be published on the WWDACT website and facebook page. It is hoped women's experiences can inform, empower and motivate other women in their journey with the NDIS.
Individual's anonymity will be protected in all research publications and presentations.
Who is WWDACT?
WWDACT is a systemic advocacy and peer support organisation for women with disabilities in the ACT. WWDACT supports and encourages women with disabilities in the ACT to fully partake in every aspect of community life and works collaboratively with the ACT Government to create a more holistic and inclusive ACT society in line with the United Nations conventions (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities And the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women).
How can you be involved?
You can participate in this research individually or with a support person, family or friend. The research is being conducted by Jocelyn Perry, a WWDACT staff member, who is happy to meet participants at a time and place convenient for them. Interviews will be informal and without any set timeframes. If you would like to participate or need further information, please contact Jocelyn at j.perry@wchm.org.au<mailto:j.perry@wchm.org.au> or on 62902166.
