Strong Women, Circus Sisters - A Photographic Exhibition
Exhibition: Thursday 5th - Tuesday 17th December 2013 An exhibition
showcasing the work of Aart Groothuis as he follows the rehearsal
journey of the Women with Disabilities ACT's Strong Women, Circus
Sisters Troupe. Funded through Disability ACT as an International Day
of People with Disabilities (I-Day) event, this exhibition compliments
the Troupe's I-Day performance on the 3rd of December 2013 on Canberra
City Walk.
At its heart the Strong Women, Circus Sisters exhibition supports and
reflects women with disabilities' choice to be involved in a fun fitness
program. The works, which have been selected by curator Christine
Cummings, reflect this by showing women with disabilities preparing in a
positive way for a creative, unique event which will involve people with
different abilities in the ACT community. The exhibition also intends to
break down stereotypes of 'acceptable' community activities for people
with disabilities.
As a registered Canberra Centenary event, this exhibition recognises
women with disabilities as strong and respected contributors to the ACT
community.
