Branch Out Disability Programs 2016

Branch Out Disability Services offers a range of support options for people with a disability looking to increase their independence, develop life and social skills, develop their work skills and to make new friends. Here is a list of support options available through Branch Out in 2016-


  *   Food For Thought-
Are you interested in working in hospitality but not sure where to start? Then Food For Thought is for you. This service is offered in partnership with Koomarri and is for people aged 18-35 who would like to develop their work skills and gain experience in a kitchen environment. The program is offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.30am to 5pm and is held at Carers ACT office located at 2/80 Beaurepaire Crescent, Holt. Participants will work towards a Certificate in 'Work Skills for Life' as well as gaining skills necessary for working in a commercial kitchen environment. An information night will be held on Wednesday 25/11 from 5-7pm at Carers ACT office for interested participants and their families.   *   I Love Cooking-
Looking to make friends and learn how to cook in a fun and safe environment? The I Love Cooking program teaches kitchen safety and develops skills in cooking, menu planning, researching and working from recipes, developing social skills and friendships. I Love Cooking is offered Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm and is held at the Carers ACT office at 2/80 Beaurepaire Crescent, Holt.


  *   Garden program-
Looking for an active and educational activity this summer? Do you enjoy growing your own vegetables and flowers? Then join us for Branch Out's new garden program. This service is offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 1pm and is held at Carers ACT's brand new community garden at the Headley Beare centre at 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling. This is an exciting new service that gives participants the opportunity to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers while being supported by experienced staff.


  *   After School Club-
Branch Out offers after school activities at the Woden School for high school students with a disability and is offered Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm during school term. Staff support students to develop life skills while engaging in a fun and active program.


  *   Friendship Club-
Do you have a group of friends you would like to travel with? Are you looking to meet new people? Branch Out's Friendship Club has regular trips and local activities on offer and is ideal for people with a disability looking to make new friends and engage in age appropriate activities including short holidays, concerts and social dinners. Please contact Branch Out for information on upcoming activities and trips.


  *   FlexAbility-
Would you like to be active but want a more social activity than a gym this is for you! FlexAbility is a great opportunity for Participants to engage with a health and fitness program no matter their current fitness level. This program will be delivered in a fun and social way and will include trips to the gym, swimming, yoga etc.


  *   Carer Counselling-
Carers ACT has been providing Carer specific counselling for more than 20 years and is the expert on Carer needs in the ACT. Our counsellors are highly qualified and experienced in providing service to Carers with an aim to sustaining their caring role and self care. Carers are able to access Carer Counselling through their care recipient's NDIS package.


  *   Isaacs House-
Is one of your goals to increase your independence or to work towards living on your own or in supported accommodation? Isaacs is a 5 bedroom house in southern Canberra that offers participants the opportunity to develop their independence, social skills and confidence to enable them to engage in supported or open accommodation. Options include day stays from 9am to 5pm as well as overnight stays ranging from 1 night to several weeks. Staff will support participants in engaging in fun age appropriate activities, learning how to cook, wash clothes, catch buses, shop and to interact with other people with a disability.


  *   I-Day Celebrations-
To Celebrate the International Day of People with a Disability Branch Out is holding a party on December 3rd at Isaacs House from 10am to 2pm. Join us for activities, painting competitions and a BBQ lunch. RSVP to branchout@carersact.org.au<mailto:branchout@carersact.org.au>.
