International Human Rights Day Forum: 20 Years of Discrimination Law The
ACT Human Rights Commission will hold its annual International Human
Rights Day community forum on 8 December 2011 at the ACT Legislative
Assembly. This year's theme is the Twentieth Anniversary of the
enactment of the ACT Discrimination Act 1991.

The Forum will feature a short summary re-enactment of the debate
leading up to the passing of the Act in 1991, with former MLAs Rosemary
Follett, Bernard Collaery, Bill Stefaniak and Michael Moore. Keynote
speeches will be given by Simon Corbell MLA, Attorney-General and former
Chief Ministers, Rosemary Follett and Jon Stanhope. Dr Helen Watchirs,
Human Rights and Discrimination Commissioner, will chair the forum.

Ms Follett, also a former ACT Discrimination Commissioner, will talk
about the first decade of discrimination and human rights protection in
the ACT. Mr Stanhope, also a former Attorney-General, will speak on the
second decade of discrimination and human rights protection in the ACT.
