Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
ASIC is Australia's corporate, markets and financial services
regulator. We contribute to Australia's economic reputation and wellbeing by
ensuring that Australia's financial markets are fair and transparent,
supported by confident and informed investors and consumers.
At the session, you will be given information about:
. ASIC's role as a regulator
. The Outreach Education Team and their educational initiatives
. National Consumer Credit Protection Act legislation and how it
better protects consumers
. ASIC's consumer website
Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC)
ACCC promotes competition and fair trade in the market place to benefit
consumers, business and the community. Its primary responsibility is to
ensure that individuals and businesses comply with the Commonwealth's
competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws.
At the session, you will be given information about:
. Consumer rights (e.g. consumer guarantees, misleading conduct,
unconscionable conduct, door-to-door sales, unfair contract terms etc.)
. How businesses should act when selling goods and services
. Where to go for consumer help
