Wind Air Water - Centenary Kite Festival at Lake Ginninderra
Saturday 1 June » 11:00am–3:00pm » Free!
Join us in celebration of World Environment Day 2013 with
the making and flying of family and community kites on the sparkling
foreshore of Lake Ginninderra in a huge day of activities, music and
food. Many cultures celebrate seasons and community stories through kite
making, and kites are a fun, vibrant and artistic way to express
identity, family and the elements in the environment.Activities for both children and adults include kite making workshops, face painting and watching the flying of dozens of community kites which have been made by groups, businesses and organisations over the last 6 months. The Royal Aeronautical Society will be on hand explaining and giving demonstrations about kite flying and magic of the elements wind and air, and the public is invited to bring their own kites to fly during the day. There will be talks by artists Lucy Buttenshaw, Pol Cruz, Eryn Mullins, Ralph Tikerpae about their current Main Gallery exhibition A Critical Diversion and by Steph Wilson, speaking about her work in the Foyer exhibition Plain Site.
Lively music from local musicians Kooky Fandango and RAAN,soup and bread and sausage sizzle by Belconnen Community Services, delicious Vietnamese food by the Vietnamese School of Canberra and yummy gelato by Gelatissimo Westfields Belconnen will all be available.
