Imagine MORE and CommunityConnections
August Workshop on Visionsand Self Direction- Alex and Bridget Snedden Since
leaving school in 2007, Alex has developed an employment portfolio, strong
friendships, a home of his own, a place in community, and independence from
his family. Alex will present what it means to him to be independent, his
'OE' and finding great flatmates. He will talk about how his dreams and
aspirations he holds for his future will continue to become a reality for
him. Intentional networks have been instrumental in him living an ordinary
but good life in his community. This presentation will show what is possible
for people who have a disability when the people around them have a Vision
for a great life.

Bridget Snedden leads the Paradigm Initiative - established In NZ to walk
alongside families in creating and sustaining good lives for their family
member with a disability. With her husband she has encouraged Alex's
individual autonomy and self-determination. Through her personal experience
she understands the importance of parents having and then holding a Vision
for a family member and to find others to become the "dream carriers" with
them for when they no longer can. She believes that government "will never
craft a good life for our child with a disability and it is up to us parents
to do that with them".
