Friendship Support for People with Diagnosed Mental Illness

The Compeer program is an award winning volunteer program that helps to
break down the stigma associated with mental illness through friendship
and social support.

Compeer is focused on matching people diagnosed with a mental illness
with a 'buddy' who is a caring and compassionate volunteer. Compeer
seeks to address the misconceptions in the community around mental
illness that often cause those with mental health problems to become
isolated, lonely and depressed. It is based on the simple premise that
'friendship is a powerful medicine'. One steady, reliable and caring
companion can make all the difference.

To be eligible to be referred to the Compeer Program, Clients must be:

* Above 18 years of age
* Diagnosed with a mental illness
* Case managed by a health professional
