TOUCH, Invisible Arts Exhibition

We are inviting members of the blind and vision-impaired community to become
involved in the creation of a new tactile art exhibition.
TOUCH is a special project that invites blind and vision-impaired people to
help create an exhibition presented in total darkness. The participants, led
by visual artist Tony Steel, will take part in a series of workshops
throughout April, sharing their perceptions of form, texture and colour.

These experiences will be turned into tactile artworks and form an
installation at the Canberra Theatre Centre's Courtyard Studio from 29 June
to 12 July.

There is also the potential for blind and vision-impaired guides to lead
viewers through the blacked-out exhibition space, the project will give the
public an insight into the world of the blind and vision-impaired.

As such, it removes traditional restrictions between the public and works of
art, creating a sensory experience based on touch, sound and smell.

TOUCH is an initiative of Tuggeranong Arts Centre's Community Cultural
Inclusion Program (CCIP), an ACT Government initiative that hopes to give
every ACT resident a unique opportunity to contribute to the community's
artistic and cultural landscape
