We wanted you to know about an exciting live theatre performance called Sons
and Mothers which is a production by "No Strings Attached Theatre of
Disability" coming to The Q, Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre on September
13, 2014 at 8pm.
No Strings Attached creates original theatre through the unique perspectives
of its performers living with a disability. Written and directed by Alirio
Zavarce in collaboration with the performers, Sons & Mothers is a humorous
and poignant look into the lives of six men and their relationships with
their mothers.
Of the Sons involved, three live at home with their mothers, one lives
independently but relies on his mother daily, and two have lost their
mothers. The Sons - Kym Mackenzie, Duncan Luke, Ryan Rowland, Richard Samai,
Damien Turbin and Ben Wishart - create intimate and authentic portraits of
their experiences with their mothers.
With heart and humour, these six sons tell stories of their mums as they
draw or dance or sing their lives, complete with stumbles and triumphs.
These are love stories made all the more potent because of disabilities the
men live with and their humble takes on discriminations they've faced.
Premiering at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival, Sons & Mothers not only
sold out their 16 performance run, but also took out top Fringe awards
including 'Best Theatre Production' and 'Best in Fringe.' Sons & Mothers is
quality drama that comes from the heart. Its truth and simplicity are
disarming. It will touch everyone who sees it.
