AAACT - Autism Advisor Position

Autism Advisor

Autism Asperger ACT (AAACT) is the peak body responsible for providing information and referral services for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the ACT. The Association is a not-for-profit incorporated organisation with a small dedicated team that delivers services to individuals, families and carers impacted by ASD. AAACT is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of people with ASD and their capacity to fully engage with the broader community.

The Association is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to share the role of implementing the Australian Government's "Helping Children with Autism (HCWA)" package including its Autism Advisory service.

This is a fulltime contract position until June 2015 with the possibility of extension. Flexible working hours will be considered.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Autism Advisor's responsibilities will primary include:
* Determining eligibility for the HCWA program and registering eligible children for early Intervention funding, which includes face-to-face appointments with parents and carers.
* Providing impartial, evidence-based information about a wide range of relevant service providers and treatments for ASD.
* Linking families to appropriate services, supports, recreational activities, and workshops.
* Providing information on a range of ASD relevant services within the ACT.
* Assisting with the coordination of the Early Days Workshops that provide information and support to families and carers of children aged up to six years of age with an ASD.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes and experience:
* Demonstrated experience in a similar role and a sound understanding of the ACT's human services sector (ASD awareness and understanding is highly desirable).
* Experience in coordinating community workshops and providing community information and education.
* Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to create documents for families.
* Ability to work independently and within a small team.
* High proficiency in computer applications and the ability to maintain database systems.
* An understanding of the Commonwealth Government's Online Funding Management System (FOFMS).
* Be prepared to undertake "Working with Vulnerable People" check.
* Possess a current ACT drivers licence and capacity to use own vehicle.
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or equivalent are desirable.
