UNDERSTANDING GUARDIANSHIP AND THE ROLE OF A GUARDIAN FOR PARENTS OF ADULTS WITH A DISABILITY - a CIT CarerSkills session

Understanding Guardianship and the role of a Guardian for adults with a disability - a CIT CarerSkills information session for parents

CIT Skills for Carers Program is partnering with The Public Advocate of the ACT to provide information to parents of children with disabilities who are turning 18 shortly. Topics covered will include:


*         The role of parent and the role of guardian - the tension and inherent challenges, and the need to distinguish between the roles of parent and guardian

*         Understanding the Guardianship Tribunal and the appointment of guardians by the Tribunal

*         The principles of guardianship based on the legislation

*         The role of guardians - what guardians can and cannot do

*         How the Public Advocate undertakes its' role.
