Chronic Conditions Seminar Series - Move it or Lose it

CHRONIC CONDITIONS SEMINAR SERIES

7-8:30pm Thursday 20 September 2012

Building 1, Pearce Community Centre, Collett Place Pearce

MOVE IT OR LOSE IT

Speaker: Edward Jelbart, Health and Fitness Lecturer, CIT

Summary of the topic:

So you've been told to exercise. But how do you keep going through the ups
and downs of a chronic condition? How do you get started if you aren't used
to exercising? And what do you do with those feelings of guilt for not doing
what you feel you 'should'?

Come along and find out some practical tips on how to incorporate exercise
into daily life, develop a plan, make exercise easier during flare ups, and
cope with not meeting your expectations. There will be time for questions at
the end and a group discussion aimed at leaving you with at least two things
you can take away and try for yourself.

The Speaker of the Evening:

Edward Jelbart is an accredited exercise physiologist. He currently works as
a teacher at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in the areas of
Health and Fitness. He co-ordinates the Diploma of Fitness program at the
CIT, which is designed to educate personal trainers about how to use
exercise safely and effectively to assist people with chronic conditions and
specific requirements.

Edward grew up in Parkes in NSW, before moving to Bathurst to study Human
movement, and later to Canberra to work as a PE teacher in a school. He has
now been at the CIT for 5 years, where he enjoys a combination of working
with students in the classroom, and assisting students to apply what they've
learned with real clients in CIT's student run fitness centre. Outside of
the CIT, Edward has previously presented on the topic of move-it or lose-it
for the Heart Foundation and Belconnen Community Service.
