John Beckhouse is a talented artist who also loves tenpin bowling,
collecting lots of things, looking at nature, watching any sort of footy and
cheering Australia on to win at any sporting event! He also enjoys family
celebrations for birthdays and other special occasions.
John lives with autism as well as a severe hearing impairment, so he views
the world very differently to most people. Together these disabilities
present significant challenges in communicating with most people.
Therefore for him art is an especially important form of self-expression. He
draws simple yet delightful black-and-white images by hand, with messages
that are warm, often amusing and which have an endearing and nostalgic
appeal.
Despite the communication challenges John continues to face, he has always
wanted to have a real job like other people; and although it isn't possible
for John to take on a regular job, he has a valuable contribution to make to
the community and unique drawing skills that others can enjoy.
