Living Life My Way: Consumer Development Fund
On 15 August 2012, the Minister for Disability Services, the Hon. Andrew Constance MP, announced that the NSW Government was establishing the Living Life My Way Consumer Development Fund (CDF).Feedback from participants in the 2011/12 Living Life My Way consultation process highlighted the importance of investing in strategies to build the confidence and competence of individuals, families and carers to support the implementation of the Government’s reforms to the disability system in NSW.
The CDF was established in response to this feedback. Its purpose is to prepare people with disability, their families and carers to participate confidently in a disability system based on self directed supports and individualised budgets. While there is widespread support and enthusiasm for these reforms, many people are uncertain about how they will cope with these momentous changes.
A total of $5 million has been allocated to the CDF to prepare for the expansion of individualised funding arrangements for people receiving disability services from 1 July 2014. The NSW Council for Intellectual Disability (NSW CID) is administering the CDF under the direction of a governing board.
Expression of interest – Advisory Group membership
Expressions of interest are now invited from suitably qualified and experienced members of the public for appointment by the Minister to the CDF Advisory Group. The Advisory Group will play a critical role in supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of the CDF.It is important the Advisory Group include people with disability, families and carers from a diverse range of backgrounds, as well as representation from consumer bodies and other organisations with specific expertise in capacity building, community development and program evaluation.
The Advisory Group will include up to 10 individuals from diverse backgrounds.
