Light it up blue - World Autism Awareness Day

'Light It Up Blue'
for World Autism Awareness Day.

Tuesday 2 April buildings will be lit up throughout the world to raise
awareness of autism.

Autism Asperger ACT is proud to announce that Museum of Australian Democracy
at Old Parliament House, Telstra Tower, Questacon and the National Gallery
have agreed to be lit up blue on Tuesday 2 April for World Autism Awareness
Day as part of the global initiative 'Light It Up Blue'.

'Light It Up Blue' started four years ago and has become an international
byword for raising awareness of autism.
Over the past four years, 'Light It Up Blue' has resulted in major world
landmarks being illuminated in blue light to raise awareness for autism.
Landmarks include the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House, Cairo
Tower and many venues throughout Australia.

Background:

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the term to describe a range of lifelong
neurological disorders that affect how a person interacts with their world.
Once considered rare, ASDs now affect nearly 1 in 100 people.

Raising awareness of this life-long disorder is fundamental to achieving
recognition for the ever increasing support needed by families.

Autism Asperger ACT is a not-for-profit association dedicated to raising
awareness, providing professional advice and supporting families effected by
autism in the ACT.
