Community Connections Homeshare Programme
Homeshare is the new programme run by Community Connections that seeks to match people with a disability who live at home with people without a disability who are looking for a place to live.
Its all about mutual benefit.
The person with the disability is the Householder and they may seek some help in the home to maintain their independence. The Homesharer offers a set amount of support in return for low cost or no cost accommodation.
Community Connections finds the matches, sets up meet and greet interviews, checks references and pays for a police check to ensure the safeguards you need are in place. We also monitor the homeshare arrangement after a move in to support both parties. And at no cost what so ever to householder or Homesharer.
Anybody with a disability is eligible to take part in Homeshare, all you have to have is a private room someone could live in. The rest of the common parts of the house are shared.
Homeshare does not cover personal care or medication but can cover many areas where help is needed such as shopping, domestic tasks, gardening, pet walking, socialisation opportunities and companionship. Having a compatible homesharer offers security in the home for people with disabilities.
Homeshare started in ACT in January and is already successfully operating with 3 homshares alreay made.To find out much more call Lee Harrison at Community Connections on Ph: 62961133 or email lee@comcons.org.au
