There is a small, fun and creative group of adult brothers, sisters and friends of people with disability, who will be organising events around Canberra in the coming year. Here is a quote from the group:
“Disability touches all of our lives – some of us experience disability directly, sometimes it is experienced by our brother or sister. We’ll be meeting up regularly for social events in different places across Canberra. We come together at the meet-ups and online to create opportunities for our siblings with disability to live great lives. In time, we are hoping to enlist some inspirational speakers. Our dream is to become a giant circle of friends helping each other to create giant opportunities for our brothers and sisters with disability. We are the change we want to see in the world.”
The first ‘meet-up’ is at Kambah Adventure Playground, at 12:30 on Saturday 8 March 2013.
If you, your brother or sister experiences disability the Giant Opportunities group would like you and your sibling to join them for a relaxing get together. BYO lunch, picnic rugs, chairs and any friends and allies who support your sibling to have a good life. It is very informal, and there’s bound to be some backyard cricket, a ukulele, a guitar or two; or bring along your own entertainment and activities for all to enjoy.
Please RSVP to maureen.howe@act.gov.au or Fiona.McIntosh@act.gov.au or just turn up.
People who rsvp will be notified of a wet weather back up.
