Family Leadership Workshop: Supporting people with disability and their families to be in charge.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will allow people with disability and their families to have choice and control over services and supports. Being in charge can be overwhelming. Where do you start? How do you know what services and supports to purchase? How do you make sure they deliver what you need? This workshop aims to help people with disability and their families answer these questions and more.
When: Tuesday 1st July 2014
Time: 5:00 PM to 8.00 PM
Where: National Disability Services, 33 Thesiger Court Deakin
Presenters: Co-presenters Sheree Henley and Sally Richards; 2 parents with 44 years disability experience between them; both advocates and activists in disability.
Cost: Free
Who should attend?: Are you a person with a disability or a parent who needs to purchase services and support through the NDIS? Are you nervous about being in charge of purchasing these services and supports?
Then this workshop is for you.
The three hour workshop will cover
1. Why people with disability and their families are the best people to be in charge - the natural authority of families
2. How your role will change once the NDIS is introduced
3. How to be in charge – getting the right mindset, working out what you need, finding and managing your chosen services and supports
What attendees said about our first workshop:
It was useful and a great opportunity to learn more about options and where we are heading, where to focus effort. It was also positive.
A session like this gives you confidence to know you can do it. Might not be very easy but you can.
The quality of the presentation was excellent. Information I did not know.
