Feel the Vibe - a ground breaking expo that lifts the lid on disability and sexuality. Speakers Announced!

Feel the Vibe is coming soon to the ACT - a ground breaking expo that lifts the lid on disability and sexuality!

Australia has come a long way towards including people with disabilities in the community, but sexuality still remains a taboo topic.
To address this issue one of the country's largest disability service providers – Northcott, has launched a ground breaking expo called Feel the Vibe. This expo aims to give people with physical disabilities who are aged 18 and over the chance to access information to help them engage more fully in this area.
The Feel the Vibe event will be held over 2 days in two locations and will provide a safe place to raise questions, discuss any concerns and generate new ideas by boosting confidence in what can be achieved.

GUEST SPEAKERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED!

Lisa Grant - Vice President of Society of Australian Sexologists(SAS) ACT, Lisa Grant is a Mental Health social worker with over 20 years' experience in child and family relationship counselling, sexual abuse and child protection therapy, and within disability, aged and mental health areas. Lisa also works in private practice as a counsellor specialising in the areas of sexual health and wellbeing, relationship counselling, anxiety and depression, recovery from trauma and abuse and grief and loss.

Erin Smith - Professional and Community Education Officer SHFPACT Project Officer Safe Schools Coalition ACT. Erin brings to the forum her wide knowledge base on the subject of Disability and Sexuality . Erin is the facilitator of Nationally accredited course , Introduction To Disability and Sexuality  which is  designed to allow participants to support and engage people with disabilities in their daily lives on sexuality, relationships and sexual health issues, and provides positive strategies for appropriate behaviours.

Lexxie Jury - Sex Worker Outreach Program (SWOP) Peer Education Officer  . Lexxie will offer her expert knowledge on how best to support people with a disability to access the sex industry, a subject that comes up time and time again for parents and carers of people with a disability. We are very much looking forward to hearing Lexxie's insights on this very important subject .

Samantha Frain - from Northcott, is an Occupational Therapist with a wealth of clinical experience in supporting people with a disability and their families/carers. Samantha has a passion for advocating for every person's right to participate in intimate and sexual activities. She takes an innovative approach to finding solutions uniquely matched to a persons needs, abilities and desires. Samantha's work with Northcott Innovation also sees her heading up a specific 'Disability and Sexuality' project.


Vaughan and Marina  - Vaughan and Marina have both been long term Northcott clients and they are also a happily engaged couple. Marina and Vaughan attended last years Feel the Vibe Expo in Sydney  and are coming to Canberra to offer their insights on their experiences from last years event, and to be part of the conversation from the point of view of a person with a disability.

For people with disabilities, families, carers, support workers and disability service providers. The forum will include a range of guest speakers and a panel discussion to discuss issues and provide information relating to sexuality and living with physical disability.

For adults with physical disabilities. The event will involve exhibitor stalls, adult product displays and be an opportunity to meet new people and learn more about making choices in the area of sexual fulfilment. Friends and carers are welcome.
