Words for peace youth writing competition

On behalf of the ACT branch of Women's International League for Peace and
Freedom please find below information about the Words for Peace Project.

CANBERRA YOUTH URGED TO THINK ABOUT PEACE

Canberra and Region school students are being invited to share their
thoughts on what peace means to them by contributing to a writing, music and
art project.

The project, called Words for Peace, is being sponsored by the Canberra
branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
and is led by Chifley woman Annie Didcott.

Awards are offered for the most outstanding contributions in four areas:
poetry, prose, song and drawing. A number of schools attended by the
successful students will also receive a special award.

Students' entries will be published in a book entitled Words for Peace.

The project has been launched to encourage young people to share what peace
means to them. The idea behind Words for Peace is receiving encouragement
from many writers, teachers, peace groups, singers and musicians.

School students can send in their entries now until the end of June this
year. The award ceremony will be in September to coincide with the
International Day of Peace.
