- your services just might be what people with disability are looking for!

With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
people with disabilities will be directly funded to purchase their own
services and supports. The NDIS will start launching in Canberra from July
2014.

Many ACT NDIS recipients can't shop around for what they need, and more than
half aren't on the internet, so the Expo will bring you to 5000 people with
disabilities in one location. Can you afford to miss this opportunity?

Do you provide:

* Financial or legal Services
International experience shows that approximately 90% of people who receive
individualised funding seek funds management assistance. NDIS recipients
will be looking for specialists to look after their NDIS funds and
distribute them as directed. Some people with disabilities also want
assistance with planning their finances and managing them properly. Are you
a funds manager, law firm, or trustee?

* Recreation or leisure services
For the first time people with disabilities will be planning recreation and
leisure into their lives. Do you provide inclusive and accessible sport,
recreation, arts/culture, holiday or social activities? You probably have
something that NDIS recipients will want to know about.
(Remember people can buy membership with NDIS money)

* Aids and equipment / modifications
No more waiting 5 years for the right piece of equipment, or vital home or
vehicle modifications. NDIS recipients will be allocated funds to get the
right equipment and modifications in place. Does your business do home
modifications - bathrooms, ramps, air conditioning systems, door openers,
railings, etc.? Does your business do vehicle modifications?
Does your business provide disability specific aids or equipment like
wheelchairs, mobility devices, beds, chairs or bathroom equipment?

* Accommodation
People with disabilities want to choose where and who they live with. Do you
provide accommodation, supported accommodation, accessible or adaptable
housing?
Are you a builder or developer who builds accessible or adaptable housing?

* Support services or personal care
With the NDIS people with disabilities will choose who provides them with
support and personal care. For the first time they will decide how their
funds are directed and which organisations or individuals are employed to
support them. Do you or your organisation provide personal care assistance
like showering, dressing, meal planning, companionship, taking people out
and about, respite services or any of the myriad personal care services
people will need?

* Parenting or family support or services
Parents with disabilities are looking for supports for their parenting.
Guidance, in home assistance, mentoring, or someone to check in with - a
broad range of ongoing supports are required to support parents with
disabilities. These services do not currently exist but perhaps your
organisation could adapt an existing service to help people with
disabilities.

* Domestic assistance
Do you provide domestic assistance services like cleaning, housekeeping,
shopping, laundry, etc.? For many people with disabilities reliable domestic
support is the key to greater independence and getting out into the
community.

* Education or employment services
Once people with disabilities can get out and about they will want jobs or
education. For many this is a high priority
Do you provide employment services or supports? Do you provide education
services or supports? Is your education institution inclusive of people with
disabilities and ready to target them as potential students?

* Communications technology & assistance
A large proportion of the 5000 ACT NDIS recipients have communications
barriers and less than half are on the internet. Do you provide equipment or
software that helps people to communicate? Do you have accessible devices
that will get people talking or get them on the internet? You might have
what people with disabilities need to make education, employment or a social
life possible.

* Something else?
Think you might have something else that will support people with
disabilities to live more independently as a valued member of the community?
Talk to us about it.

If so, then you may have something that people with disabilities will want
to purchase with their NDIS package.

The Control and Choice Expo will bring together over 150 businesses and
charities to give people with disabilities an opportunity to see what the
market has to offer.
