A workshop on alternative communication

A workshop on alternative communication that will inspire you

When a person has a speech disability it's easy to assume they have nothing to say.  We parents know differently.

We learn to understand their quirky little ways of communicating such as the sideways glance at the fridge that means hungry.

It's hard to get to know your family member without some kind of language.  It's also very hard for your family member to

connect with other people and make friends if they have no way of communicating.

So we try to help our children learn to use alternative methods of communication

It's often hard work and progress is slow.  It's easy to give up.

We want to inspire you to keep working on helping your child

to communicate.

Thomas Banks is professional speaker who educates communities about communicating with people who have disabilities. He has cerebral palsy and uses alternative communication. Be inspired by his story and learn to be a good communication partner.

Sheree Henley is a parent of a teenager learning to communicate with PODD.  She is also the founder of Chatterbox, a social group for families and others interested in learning about alternative communication.  She will share her journey with you and give you tips on how to keep going and get other communication partners involved – teachers, friends, neighbours, after school care etc.
