Disabled couple thrilled they’ll be able to keep their baby
WONDERFUL news for this couple!!!
but..... WHY did they have to prove they were fit to care for their baby? and why was it assumed they couldn't because of their disabilities????
http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1173602--disabled-couple-thrilled-they-ll-be-able-to-keep-their-baby
The proud parents of a 3-week-old baby boy learned Friday that they won’t lose their child to the Peel Children’s Aid Society after all.
“Yay!” Maricyl Palisoc, 34, yelled as she carried 9-pound William into her assisted living apartment unit in Mississauga with her fiancĂ©, Charlie Wilton, 28. Both parents have cerebral palsy.
They had feared they would lose the baby, but a family conference meeting was held Friday with Peel CAS and the parents showed that they can address the safety and well-being of their child.
They have a personal care worker with them 24 hours a day and grandparents willing to help.
It’s been an emotional three weeks after their son was born by C-section at Mount Sinai Hospital.

"The Undateables" - new UK TV show
http://www.salon.com/2012/04/12/dating_while_disabled/singleton/
Shain, a 31-year-old with a learning disability, text messages a woman “I love you” before even going out with her. Luke, a 23-year-old with Tourette’s, first meets his dating coach and uncontrollably yells out, “Horny bitch!” Richard, a 37-year-old with Asperger syndrome, flexes his biceps until his date has to hint for him to stop.
These are just a few of the stars, and awkward moments, of the new British documentary series that sets up disabled singles with a leading matchmaker service and then follows their search for love. The premise alone is ripe for debate — and it doesn’t help any that it’s called “The Undateables.”

more information about the West Belconnen Children's Behaviour and Emotional Wellbeing Clinic
West Belconnen Children's Behaviour and Emotional Wellbeing Clinic
The Child and Family Centre program is a free ACT Government program and was
established to provide early intervention and prevention services to
children and their families. The West Belconnen Child and Family Centre
provides brief clinical interventions through the Children's Behaviour and
Emotional Wellbeing Clinic, focusing on managing children's behaviour and
emerging mental health issues.
The purpose of the clinic is to promote early help-seeking behaviours, and
provide a service that focuses on specific issues of concern for clients and
their families. The clientele are children aged 0 - 8 years (and their
parents/carers), who reside in the Belconnen area*.
For service providers, the clinic provides a referral option for clients and
families seeking short-term, focused support on presenting issues. The scope
of work provided within the clinic includes informal assessment,
information, strategies, referral and follow-up. Children and families
requiring services in addition to that offered by the clinic are assisted
through appropriate supports and referral.
The clinic operates within an early intervention and prevention framework
and seeks to address issues early in the life of the problem or early in the
life of the child. Issues that are addressed within the clinic setting
include milestones, discipline and behaviour management, temperament /
shyness, separation anxiety, self esteem, social skills, sleep and eating
issues, mood and behaviour changes, adjusting to change, grief and loss, and
family conflict/relationships.
The clinic does not seek to replicate the range of behavioural and mental
health services already available in the community. For example, issues
outside the scope of the clinic include psychometric assessments,
psychiatric crisis situations or emergency services, and infant feeding and
settling issues.
The clinic is held every Thursday morning at the West Belconnen Child and
Family Centre. Appointments are required.
Referrals and appointment bookings are accepted from both service providers,
and parents/carers. All referrals will go through an intake process at the
West Belconnen Child and Family Centre.
For enquiries or to make a referral into the clinic, please contact an
intake worker at the West Belconnen Child and Family Centre on (02) 6205
2904 Monday-Friday 9-5pm.

and a link about Aspergers and Love...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/3354140/Love-and-Aspergers-syndrome.html
He's gentle, unworldly, highly attentive and charmingly old-fashioned. The catch? The very things that make Keith so attractive to Sarah are symptoms of Asperger's. Anna Moore meets the couples living with this surprisingly common condition.
