****Room To Move is made possible by a donation from The Radiance Dance Project (RDP), administrated and delivered in partnership with the Belconnen Arts Centre. The founder of RDP, Morgan Jai-Morincome, is the inclusive movement practices mentor for the series.****
The Radiance Dance Project (RDP) (2005-2012) was a 40 week-long inclusive community arts project(using the mediums of dance & theatre) founded and facilitated by Morgan Jai-Morincome and co-facilitated by Min Mae.
RDP provided a creative and collaborative space for up to thirty adult women each year living with a diverse range of physical, cognitive and sensory abilities.****
The project previously received grants from Disability ACT, The Department of Education and Training & ArtsACT and were winners (2007) & finalists
(2008) of the ACT Adult Learners Week Outstanding Program Award. Morgan has presented the work of the project at local, national and international conferences as well as being the subject of research and publication in the Journal of Adult Learning Australia (A/Prof Lisa Ehrich QUT, 2010) and The International Journal of the Arts in Society, Morgan Jai-Morincome & A/Prof Carolyn Broadbent, ACU, 2010).****

Established in 1996 in response to the needs of people with disabilities
to access arts education, Hands On Studio is a non-profit organisation
that has an extensive background in providing art education for people
with physical and/or intellectual disabilities through its studio and
outreach programs.
The Studio is currently located in M16 Studio and gallery complex,
providing opportunities for students to work in a mainstream arts
environment
The studio provides seven classes a week which includes drawing
painting, printmaking, collage, craft and pottery. The students
regularly contribute to ACT community cultural life with professional,
high quality exhibitions and displays of artwork. These have occurred at
art galleries and public venues across the region.

Dance Classes for Children with Special Needs
Canberra Dance Theatre won the Chief Minister's Inclusion award in 2011!
Age appropriate, energetic and creative dance for children and teenagers with special needs. These are fun and active classes that provides a range of movement and dance activities. They involve warm-up/fitness/co-ordination tasks, learning a variety of dances, problem solving and improvisation, and a relaxing cool down. These classes offers lots of opportunities for the students to work with each other and/or their parent/carer.

Cultivate Grants Announced Media Release from Arts Access Australia (AAA)
AAA are pleased to announce the recipients of the Cultivate professional development grants for artists with disability.
Cultivate provides seed funding to artists who want to further develop their professional artistic practice with the aim of being better placed to pursue a professional artistic career and to compete for funding in general arts funding programs.
Since launching Cultivate in August this year, Arts Access Australia has been overwhelmed with responses from all over the country.
Over 110 artists with disability from all States and Territories of Australia applied for Cultivate. A total of $40,000 worth of grants have been allocated in 2011 to six artists.
“It’s fantastic to show how important dedicated funding like this is for the development of artists with disability,” said CEO Kate Larsen.
“Cultivate has also given us a real insight into the diversity and quality of work that’s being made by artists with disability in Australia, and helped highlight some of the barriers that stop people applying for mainstream arts funding,” she said.
Two of the grants will go to artists from the Northern Territory. Alison Inkamala will use the grant to attend exhibitions and prize ceremonies where her work is being shown and to return to country to record details of her grandparent’s country on canvas. Dion Beasley will use the grant for illustration workshops to help develop his trademark Cheeky Dog illustrations into a children’s book.
Three South Australian artists will also receive support through Cultivate. Theatre director Julian Jaench will use the grant for mentoring by three industry professionals. Musician Tyson Hopperich will explore new ways of making music with iPad and App technology. And dancer Lorcan Hopper will fly to the UK this week to work with a number of disability-led and integrated companies and to attend the Oska Bright Film Festival.
Melinda Smith, a dancer from Victoria, has also received support for a series of one-on-one dance workshops and masterclasses in accessible dance studios.
Supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council and the Office for the Arts, Cultivate begins to address the recommendation made in the National Arts and Disability Strategy to improve access to arts and cultural funding programs and processes for people with disability.
Arts Minister Simon Crean said “As emerging professionals, these six artists are a true reflection of Australia’s enormously diverse and accomplished arts community.
“We want to help break down the barriers that might prevent them from reaching their full potential and expressing themselves artistically and creatively. “I look forward to seeing all of them develop their practice, build their professional networks and grow as artists.”
Cultivate also aims to act as a model of how arts funding processes can be made more accessible by letting artists apply in whatever way works best for them – receiving applications on video, audio tracks, through Skype, text messages, phone conversations or in person.
A second round of Cultivate will be launched in mid 2012.

Health & Fitness programs with children and adults with autism
Louise Wills, the AAACT Health and Fitness Coordinator, has already got a number of programs lined up for Term 1, 2012. Louise has put together the preliminary details which are listed below. • Saturdays 2.00 – 2.45pm: Zumba for women. Dance Central in Phillip. Cost: $10 per session.
• Saturdays 3.00-3.30pm: Swimming for ASD kids. Youngs Swim School in Kambah. $170 for a 10-week term. Small group instruction.
• Mondays 4.00-5.00pm: Skills and fitness session for primary-aged kids. CIT Bruce. $10 per session. 6 week program
• Thursdays 7.00-8.00pm Yoga for ASD adults and carers. YMCA Chifley. $5 per session, 6 week program from 16th of February 2012
• Wednesdays 1.00-1.50pm: Individualised circuit training in the gymnasium for ASD adults with a mentor. YMCA Chifley. $5 per session.

Clemente Canberra - FREE ART COURSE in January 2012
Clemente Canberra, a free university program offered by the Australian
Catholic University in partnership with St Vincent de Paul Society, will
be running a free and fun ART on FABRIC course in January 2012. There is
no assessment for this course.
You have to be 18 or over, and priority is given to those who have
suffered trauma or major setback in their life caused by mental illness,
disability, addiction, unemployment, homelessness, family breakdown, and
other such disadvantage.
There are only 20 places available and 11 have already been filled so if
you want to attend, or you know someone who would benefit from
attending, act now!
Note that you cannot just turn up on the day. You must register before 6
January 2012 by contacting Robyn, the Clemente Coordinator for St
Vincent de Paul Society.

Ideas competition for ACT school students - Everyone Everyday - 101 ways to include people with disability
ACT BLITS is pleased to announce the launch of a creative ideas competition
for ACT school students called "Everyone Everyday - 101 ways to include
people with disability".
The competition invites ACT school students to tell us their ideas - through
words, drawings or photos - about the things that everyone can do to include
people with disability in everyday life.
There are great prizes to win.
Entries will be displayed in a Canberra exhibition in Youth Week, April
2012. Students will also have a chance to have their idea included in a
book to be published in 2012.

DANCE CLASSES FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Canberra Dance Theatre is teaching a range of age appropriate dance classes for students with special needs. These are fun and active classes that provide a range of movement and dance activities. Classes involve warm-up/fitness/co-ordination tasks, creative dance activities and learning a variety of dances and dance styles. Tween Moves and CDTeens class for older students also involve problem solving and improvisation, with a relaxing cool down to finish. All the classes offer opportunities for the students to work with each other and in the case of Jumping Juniors, with their parent/carer.
SATURDAYS (during school terms)
CDTeens: aged 13 - 18 years, 9.00-10.00am, $10.
An energetic and dynamic class drawing on various dance styles.
Tween Moves: aged 8 - 12 years, 10.10 -10.50am, $10.

A new program for people with a disability
The National Museum of Australia is pleased to announce a new music workshop program for people with a disability.
Come and join in the fun, hear the stories and explore our new Landmarks gallery through music and movement.
The workshops are free and have been developed for preschool children and adults with a disability.

What happens?
Participants who have physical or intellectual disabilities are encouraged to participate in these free programs with their carers. After viewing relevant displays and hearing about the stories in the Landmarks gallery for about 20 minutes, participants will then experience music and movement relating to the exhibits in a fun and inclusive environment. These music activity workshops will last between 30 and 45 minutes.
Numbers are limited so bookings are essential. After your booking is made (via the number or email contact above), our program manager will contact you to discuss the program and any special requirements you may have. To allow this to happen seamlessly, please provide two ways of contacting you at the time of booking.
Family members of preschool children are also welcome to attend. Future programs especially for people with visual or hearing impairment are also planned.
